Tuesday promises to be exciting. After a morning visit to Balboa Park , I’ve planned a flight out to Santa Catalina Island also Guide.

I’ve heard other pilots talk about the runway at the airport (also) (AVX) out there.

It’s peaked in the middle such that from either end of the runway, the other end is not visible. Also, as you’re making an approach to the runway, it appears much shorter than it really is since you can’t see the end of it. It’s 3240 feet long so I’m sure we’ll have no problem landing there but it will be an unforgettable visual experience to land there. The airport is quite interesting too. Dynamiting an area between two mountain peaks then piling up the thousands of tons of rubble created it.

We’ll camp there for the evening at one of the four campsites on the island called Little Harbor.

An interesting sidenote: I called and made reservations for a campsite. I talked to Sierra (nice name). While I was giving her my credit card information and after I said my street address she said "Woodinville? My friend just moved up there". I responded with "Hmm, is she single?" <grin>. She said "Yes, and she’s 5’8" blonde and blue eyes – 24 years old"! So, I said "Well, you have my phone number…" and she said "I’ll pass it along to her". Well, I call all the way down to southern California and get a lead on a girl right here at home. Cute J
